Recently, The Daily Herald, Chicago's local newspaper called me to do a story.  I was thrilled, and am excited to share that story with you.  But I think my favorite part was the picture of me and my beautiful son Ian.

Aurora Woman Helps Other Moms Live More Fulfilling, Balanced Lives by Susan Dibble

When mom coach Lori Radun spoke to the Mothers of Preschoolers group in Aurora recently, she talked about the eight essential ingredients of having a "momnificent" life.

"While she was going over them, in the room you could hear the oohs and ahs," recalled MOPS member Lillian Lucas of Aurora. "You could tell people really connected, and a bunch of people went up to talk to her afterward."

Radun has been connecting with moms across the country and even internationally since becoming a mom coach five years ago. Her self-published book, "The Momnificent! Life: Healthy and Balanced Living for Busy Moms," recently was named a finalist in the sixth annual National Books Awards of USA Book News, an online and review Web site for publishing houses.

Supermom Thought She Didn't Need The Momnificent! Life

Every mom should read this book!!!!  Speaking for myself, I tend to prefer to do it all.  I know it will be done the way I want it and I don’t have to teach anyone how to do it.  Then go behind them to do it my way anyway.

I started to read Lori Radun’s book a few weeks ago.  Between being Supermom, having flu kids and such.

This book was made for me.  I hate to admit this but at first I thought this book didn’t pertain to me and my life.  I am a confident woman with the perfect husband, great kids and the house with the white picket fence.  Okay, we don’t actually have a white picket fence but you get the drift.

Boy was I wrong about not needing this book.  After chapter one I was hooked.

The Do's and Don'ts of Child Allowances

The other day the subject of child allowances came up with one of my clients.  She was trying to decide if child allowances should be tied to household chores.  I know there are different opinions on how child allowances should be handled, but I thought I would share a quick reference list based on my own personal experience with this issue.

1.  DO give your child an allowance.

2.  DON'T wait until your children are older to give allowance.

3.  DO give an amount that is fair.

4.  DON'T tie allowance to chores.

5.  DO have a plan for their financial responsibilities.

6.  DON'T forget to be consistent with paying allowance.

7.  DO require your children to save and share money.

8.  DON'T tell your children what to spend their money on.

A detailed explanation on each of these do's and don'ts can be found in chapter 43 of my book, The Momnificent! Life, but ultimately the decision is yours.  You have to decide for yourself how you feel about each of these suggestions.
